Hi all,

although it isn't a freebsd list, please let me ask you with a
semi-freebsd related question.

So i've tried to install freebsd 6 onto a HP ML150G2, with an el-cheapo
Silicon Image 3112a card (beacause the default shipped sata controller
isn't supported in freebsd). The installer cannot see any disks, so i've
tried freesbie (1.1) just for checking the hardware and it succeeded.
Freesbie sees and handles correctly that card, so i am happy with it
(expect the fake-hardware raid feature, but that isn't an issue this
time).

This isn't a success story this time, because i have to install freebsd.
So here are the questions:

-what is the difference between freesbie and freebsd? On boot time i've
checked the loaded modules both on freesbie and freebsdd, and only found
unimportant differences.

-Freesbie uses a non-GENERIC kernel? As i see now here should be some
differences between the drivers. I've tried also freebsd 5.4 with the same
result (won't work), but in freesbie i see 5.3-p2 kernel (according
uname). I don't think that a newer kernel could contain less working
drivers as an older one.

-if there are differences between freebsd and freesbie kernel source tree,
what are that? Is freesbie (specialized) kernel soruce tree available
through cvs or others?

So sorry for this unrelated post, but i'd like to solve this problem, but
couldn't get any reasonable help from local forums and newsgroups.

Thanks in advance,
ruczati
