Not to be the voice of negativity, but a machine old enough to not boot from 
cdrom is probably going to be old enough to not boot FreeBSD at all either.  
Some of my older machines that *could* boot from cdrom stopped booting 
anything at all when FreeBSD 5.x came around.  (dual pentium pros).  If you 
are talking 486 or early pentium class hardware it's highly likely that 
FreeSBIE isn't going to boot at all.
