First, I'd like to apologize for not announcing this right after the CVS
update. The default settings have changed; FreeSCI now uses uses
/dev/sequencer device 1 with MT32->GM mappings unless anything else is
specified.

You will need the 'midi_device' and, possibly, 'midiout_driver' options
(the defaults in the README file are currently listed incorrectly for
those).

Use
        midi_device = mt32
to set MT-32 mode.
This line will have to be added to your ~/.freesci/config file (please
have a look at the README if you don't know about this file- there are
many features, such as trilinear filtering, which are only used if they're
explicitly enabled in this file).

Right now there is no option not to load MT-32 patches in MT-32 mode. If
you're sure that this is what you want, we can add it, of course....
