This change appears to have broken the win32 build. I keep getting an
error in config.l that there is an invalid escape sequence on line 413.
This is a totally bogus message as far as I can tell.

Can someone test on a non-gcc compiler to see if everything is okay there?

I'm not sure why this is happening, ther doesn't appear to be any special
characters, and it all looks very simple. :(
