This appear to not be limited to SOlaris. My friend is running Debian on
an Ultra 5. He's using XFree86 3.3.6, gcc 2.95.2.

He also has to disable_shmem for anything to display, but then sees the
same text problem that I do, except that he's trying LSL3 (where as I was
seeing it in HQ1).

Any info I should try to get from him to help debug this? The output of
