Just tested on my boyfriend's win2k laptop, and this doesn't fix the
problem either.

Taylor, could you try this build on win98 and 2k to see if this workaround
at least works on win98?
I'm not sure what else to try at this point, maybe the midiStream*
functions instead of midiOut*?
