I'm against that unless we know for sure that opl_alsa cannot be made to
work for our purposes; some low-power systems simply can't afford the
computations neccessary for pcm synthesis but do provide an OPL/2 or
OPL/3 chip.

It's been re-licensed under the LGPL in a different project
(adplug.sourceforge.net), apparently with explicit permission from the
author. I contacted both Simon Peter of adplug and Tatsuyuki Satoh last
week (following suggestions and discussions on #freesci), but haven't
heard back from them yet.
If we use adplug's code, which is completely LGPL'd, we'll even get a song
file parser for SCI01/SCI1 music.
