I picked up the latest CVS, but used your binary and SDL.dll to eliminate extra variables. >Please test and let me know if you run into any problems. Alrighty: ARTHUR: Emulating SCI version 0.000.685 Graphics: Using the sdl driver 0.3 MIDI-out: Using the win32mci driver 0.2 MIDI-device: Using the mt32gm driver v0.01 Sound server: Using the win32e sound server 0.2 Calling ARTHUR::play() kfile.c: f_open_mirrored(): Warning: Could not write all 11 bytes to 'version' i n 'C:\WINNT\.freesci\ARTHUR' (only wrote -1) ERROR: Attempt to read from file handle 0 ERROR: Attempt to close file handle 0 Warning: Clone a4d6 was cleared with underBits set I have always had that write 11 bytes thing. I just wanted ot bring that up. Now the sound (using event based with software synth): Arthur is ultra fast still. Notes tend to bleed into each other. (Say...you have two eighth notes right next to each other. A "pick up" to another measure if you will. The first ones plays and holds as the second one plays and holds. They eventually both stop, but each should have ended before the other one was played. Using my hardware (Turtle beach santa cruz) device, it was kinda the opposite. The notes would still hold into each other, but there was a progressive slow down as more and more of the notes played. I let the intro run to almost the "throne picture" (Ken Williams screen I think), then hit enter to start the game. At that point, a few of the "court song" notes played...(and held) but eventually just died completely. SQ3 - software synth - This is the closest I have heard it yet. Sq3's intro ...where it builds the Sierra logo and writes "Sierra Presents" at the bottom - this is moody. Sometimes the animation just skips & sometimes it properly shoots in from the left and right side. The music was pretty consistant (not perfect) and pretty close to actual tempo. (It was sounding good too!) The music slowed down a bit when all of the notes (drums and company) came in. Also - the song did make it to the main part before "Pirates of Pestulon" appeared. The garbage area music was practically PERFECT. hardware synth - Hmmm. Problems. The graphics skipped. (It just blew through the logo drawing sequence) It also seemed to slow down a whole lot more (than the software synth did) when the drums game in on the intro. Garbage music almost perfect...but at some points it seemed like instruments were hesitant to play. Like the picked bass sounded like a Junior High student who knew he was coming in at the right time....but was slightly behind due to nerves. Oh - side note: No extra messages on the console! Stayed clean after the SQ3 play. KQ1 - Some new stories here AND something very interesting. Software Synth - This came in LOUD and clear when the KQ1 logo drew itself. The fanfare was ULTRA accelerated and then slowed down EXTREMELY (Like 1/4 of the current speed) when the drums came. Doing music with English (main theme after fanfare & before brass): Dum Dum Dum da-da-da-da Dum Dum Dum da-da-da-da Dum da-da-da-da Dum. (Trumpets enter) The da-da-da-da s are the snare drum notes. *these* slow down to the quarter speed. When it is only playing on the downbeat with the other instrument (this is the Dums), it is considerably faster than the da-da-da-das....but still a bit sluggish. Also...KQ1 bombed when I tried to begin a new game.
