Despite all the idiocy that went into the SIP RFC, he's right that it's the 
"future" (how's mod_h323 coming along?). Being logically and intelligently 
designed for the task at hand isn't a prerequisite for popularity (see: HTML 
apps).

For a more enjoyable read, try the Sip V4 draft:

Even better, at least one person on the sip-implementors list took it quite 
seriously.
