As far as I see, there are three elements that have to discussed beforehand:

- exact format (change format of checksum, set some value in the "flag3"
field, change bits in the "sync" frames (slow-speed data part of first
frame + every 21 frames).

- what FEC to use?

- documentation for the API for the codec2 library?

E.g. I looked in the source-code of c2enc.c and c2dec.c, but did not
find any commands to -say- configure the bitrate of the encoder.

Wauw. This is interesting!!!

To bad it doesn't have native audio in/out, but that's the least of the
issue!
