I think it would be magnificent, but difficult to get Academia to require such
a drastic change. Maybe if it were a "strongly suggested" alternative to the
standard Thesis?
I bet there would be a large number of advanced-degree-seeking students who
would rather spend time on an Open Source project, than write a Thesis. I know
I would!
