If your radio has an ALC you should set it so that it's not showing any ALC
lights. What I do is set the radio for where FM would be 50w, and feed in
enough audio to just reach 10w. That way the signal stays perfectly linear.
You won't ever get the radio's full power that way, probably 50-70% is
achievable. But the signal will be clean. If the ALC kicks in it'll likely
cause spatter away from the intended frequency (and thus waste power).
I'll go at 21:35. Listening on 7.070 USB right now though.
