Hello Michael,

On one of the Codec 2 blog posts (I think the 1400 bit/s one from Nov
2011) some one ran the Codec thru an objective measure tool to get some
pseudo MOS scores.

Subjective testing could be crowd sourced on the web. Neat little
project if you are interested. Paired comparison tests are quite easy
to conduct.

1. Grab some source files (different speakers, background noise etc)
2. Run them through Codec 2, AMBE, MELP, g729, GSM etc
3. Set up a web page that plays pairs of them in random order. So hts1a
might be played using Codec 2 and AMBE one after the other. The next
test might be mmt1 with g729 and MELP etc....
4. The listener then selects which sample of each pair they like best,
save the choice to a database.
5. Repeat over as many people who want to hit the web site
6. Publish the rankings, you can even do some statistics, e.g. model the
number of times each codec was chosen as a random variable, calculate
95% confidence intervals etc.

Cheers,

David
