I haven't seen this mentioned yet on the mailing list but I think it's a
big deal.
The Flex Radio team opened up their embedded API called Waveform at the
TAPR DCC this weekend. Guess what their first target was? FreeDV!!!!
This is the first manufacturer (as far as I know) actually allowing users
to embed FreeDV into their retail radio product.
I was especially impressed with the work of Graham Haddock, KE9H who
designed the API and targeted David's work as a first integration. Thank
you for doing this :)
My gut says this is the first domino to fall on what will be a long line of
Codec2 integrations.
Congratulations to David Rowe VK5DGR for sitting down day after day all
these years to get here. I don't know the specifics of how Flex decided to
do this integration first, but my guess is it wouldn't have happened
without Bruce Perens K6BP or Mel Whitten K0PFX. So thanks to you all, and
whoever else I'm not aware of that was involved.
The chicken & egg problem is one step closer to being solved; this is where
the future is happening!
