Nice work Richard thanks :-) I'll be adding an experimental 700 bit/s low SNR HF mode to FreeDV over the next few weeks. In my simulations I'm getting readability 4/5 DV at 0dB SNR on fast fading channels.
The new waveform has a PAPR (crest factor) of just 5dB (FreeDV 1600 is 12dB) so if your PA can handle a high average power (not all ham gear can) you can run say 60W rms on a 100W PEP PA.
