I've started working on a rudimentary conversion to cmake but the makefile
is pretty long and may take me a while.
Looking at the toolchain options I found this:

Looks like a decent approach to cross-compiling but I'll admit I don't
fully understand it.
I'll let you know when I have something worth committing.
