Just joined the list so I don't have a thread to reply in, but I saw some discussion of DRM as a source of modem inspiration. Some years ago there was an adaptation of DRM to ham radio SSB radios. It was dubbed "Mode H" and its description is at: http://www.qslnet.de/member/hb9tlk/drm_h.html
