I played a bit more with it:
freedv_tx 2400B ../raw/hts1a.raw /tmp/modem.raw
sox -r 48000 -t raw -b 16 -e signed-integer -c 1 /tmp/modem.raw -t raw
/tmp/modem-filtered.raw sinc 300-4800
freedv_rx 2400B /tmp/modem-filtered.raw /tmp/demod.raw
The sox also filters the data to get rid of the sidebands (300 Hz to 4800
Hz BW). Then the rx reads the filtered waveform to produce the codec audio.
Seems to work. Modify that theory to get your off the air signal.
