The patent claims appear to revolve around training neural networks
(convolutional neural nets in particular) for audio and text processing,
including, but not limited to, audio compression, audio to phoneme, text to
speech, and decompression.
A casual google search using convolutional neural network and audio seems
to quickly find material that relates to audio compression that predates
the filing date on the patent by some years.
The drafter of the patent claims does not even pretend to be schooling
someone "skilled in the art" of effecting a novel application of a neural
network and training it; it reads more like a recitation of definitions and
applications from a text book plus possible data sets.
If you accept that a neural net can be used to implement pretty much any
mapping function, then most potential applications become pretty obvious
and make the notion of patent worthy "novel applications that extend the
prior art" a bit of a stretch.
I am not sure if the patent even covers an already trained neural net that
does audio compression or decompression, based on my reading.
