One thing is for sure, my experience is it is best to open the sound
card device at its native rate so there is no need for any rate conversion.
AND ! usually there is no audio energy above about 6kHz, so there is no
aliasing issues, so you can do a very quick and dirty downsample by just
taking every nth value. I usually take very 3rd to get 16 kHz SR.
