Carl,

I’ll be glad to help you with this.

It sounds like the unit is not being started in the DFU mode, perhaps.

Did you start by pressing the PTT button on the side and holding it in, while
you apply power to the unit? And then letting go of the PTT after it is
powered up. If this is successful, there should be a NEW com port created for
this in your Device Manager, under the Ports section.

Flashing the SM1000. Apply power with PTT held down, then release PTT. Connect
the SM1000 and the software should recognize the device being connected. If
this is the first time it may need to access its drivers over the Internet and
install them automatically (this may take 15 minutes or more and appear to not
be working, please be patient)

You should hear the normal windows sound of a device plugged into the USB port.

Feel free to contact me directly at [email protected] <mailto:[email protected]>
and we can walk through several things as needed to get you up and going
quickly.

Subject: Re: [Freetel-codec2] SM 1000 Firmware Upgrade using WIndows

Could anyone perhaps provide me some advice with regards to updating the
firmware of a SM 1000 using a Windows PC.

I attempted to follow the instructions in the manual to update the SM 1000's
firmware, but when I looked for it in the DfuSeDemo application, I could not
find it there. I could also not find the SM 1000 in Device Manager leading me
to believe that there is a COM/port problem.

If anyone has any advice on how to fix/troubleshoot this, it would be greatly
appreciated.

Kind regards,

Carl-Hein Visser
