Hi Daniel,

Do you happen to have squelch enabled (the checkbox under the squelch
dial)? If not, does the background noise go away on stronger signals once
the application syncs up ("Sync" indicator turning green)? Is there any
improvement if squelch is turned on? (-2 is typically a good place to start
for that setting.)
