Hi David, I've seen the app hanging issue on slower machines that may not be able to handle multiple receive support. Something you can try doing is going to Tools->Options->Modem and unchecking "Simultaneously Decode All HF Modes". The downside of course is that you'll have to push Stop and then Start again whenever you want to change modes.
Re: waterfall display issue--I'm not fully sure. It could still be a performance thing, so perhaps the suggestion for the hanging will help here too.
