That sounds like the right way to do it to me. It would work just like a
real store, where someone can pick something up and carry it around with
them (at which point no one else can buy it) but if they decide not to buy
it, it goes back on the shelf.
You could probobly just change the basket cleaning code, so that before it
deletes a basket, it credits the inventory back.
