Check out the demo site. It now has a department with 2,000 items that each
have 5 SKUs. It doesn't seem to kill the database, which I wouldn't expect.
It doesn't seem to bother the admin interface or the normal store browsing
interface. It does make the quick order page impractical. You can't show
10,000 items on a single page.
The server the demo site is sitting on seems a little slow right now, but I
can see that someone is making lots of tar files...
