Hello:
Just installed freetrade 1.0.3, and for the most part everything seems
to be working fine. Couple questions off hand:
1) I've been led to believe that someone on this list has used freetrade
to set up a (music) record store. Could anyone provide me with a way to
contact this person?
2) Before I start hacking away, could anyone suggest a straightforward
method to determine the ID of the "base" department, given a
sub-department one or more levels down the tree? (That is, the highest
level parent of a sub-department, one down from "root".)
3) Does anyone else find the SKU implementation somewhat odd? In
particular, I'm concerned about the idea of presenting customers with a
list of *SKUs* to choose from as opposed to a list of *Items*.
Consider this definition of SKU from APICS (www.apics.org):
SKU (stockkeeping unit) - An item at a particular geographic location.
For example, one product stocked at the plant and at six different
distribution centers would represent seven SKUs.
The point being, SKUs are used to track inventory at the fulfillment
centers. The way freetrade is setup, a customer might be presented with
something like this:
SKU ProdID UPC Item
Price
SKULOC1000001 WTS000001 0000000001 White T-Shirt $10.00
BUY!
SKULOC2000002 WTS000001 0000000001 White T-Shirt $10.00
BUY!
SKULOC3000003 WTS000001 0000000001 White T-Shirt $10.00
BUY!
Now, obviously the customer doesn't care from which location his/her
White T-Shirt is shipped. Besides, that's not a choice we want the
customer to make. Instead, we would want the customer to select an ITEM
(White T-Shirt), and when we processed that order, it would be our job
to determine which from which SKU the order should be fulfilled.
Anyone else have any thoughts on this?
Thanks,
J.R. Belding
