We update our development site, then promote the changes to a staging site,
still looking for errors on our end, and then promote to production.
If you're talking about one file. Then cvs -n update to see which files
are updated or conflict, then you can update all or one by specifying file
names after the cvs and command.
The best way, and to be careful about this is to run cvs -n update and see
what's out there. U, M or C. -n will run any command without actually
making the change so you can see what you would do, if there is an updated
file you can delete or overwrite the file. We went to this due to several
people messing up builds by over writing in the CVS repository newer files.
This still requires people to understand and to be careful.

Hello all,
I hope this does not sound silly, but how does one update from the CVS? Do
you simple replace the old file with one from the most recent CVS file. Or
do you have to use the CVS version in its entirety?
