I mostly use Webdrive for ftp. I have set my ftp to transfer ASCII by
default and have added what bin extensions I occasionally ftp into an
exclude list. Webdrive also lets me map my ftp connection to a drive in
windows so that I can use any software I want to work on remote files.
Granted this only works in windows.

I have copied my editors php syntax file into the default settings. So now
all my files without other wise defined extensions are syntax colored as
php.

I am not in the habit of closing my editor each time I close one file and
open another and typically have a half a dozen files open at a time. So I
only have to do the hard work of finding my editor once then I can open my
files from inside the editor.
Admittedly though I have pondered putting extensions on all my files just to
be anal retentive. Something unknown makes me feel warm and fuzzy and that
all is right in the world when I can attach an extension to a file so that I
can see what the file is for at a glance. Just a couple days ago I was
considering making includes filename.inc.php and screens filename.scr.php
and so on.
