a couple of things. - the symbol export list needs to be optional also. (conditional on a configure flag or something)
- in general, if you want to upstream something to freetype, you should be willing and happy to patch your own system-wide freetype on it, and break your own system, before you ask people to risk breaking theirs'... and wait for a few days to see if your own computer is still working fine.
