Ah, this reminds me of another option for the `configure' script.

  --with-svg=yes         unconditionally use a default SVG engine (to
                         be determined yet which one)
  --with-svg=no          don't compile the SVG code
  --with-svg=auto        either `yes' or `no', depending on what the
                         system provides
  --with-svg=no-default  don't select a default engine but enable SVG
                         code – this way the SVG library must be
                         explicitly specified with hooks

I still want to have `auto' as the default.
