Configured with
/configure --prefix=/path/to/freetype-2.10.4 --disable-shared 2>&1 | tee

This makes zero sense since perusing the FreeType header files, the
necessary include files
for read and close and there.

Any ideas?  Using GNU Make 3.81.  Read docs/INStALL.UNIX and I think I have
met all of the prerequisites.
