I can only suggest using our ftgamma and ftstring from FreeType-demos to test 
if subpixel rendering adds anything. The former provides wonderful patterns by 
pressing [Tab] repeatedly but only tests most common RGB stripes. The letter 
shows flowers in the bottom corners that are supper sensitive to color fringing.
