Thanks for the quick response! That seems clear to me. I managed to compile
it and link it in another UB project:

./configure CFLAGS="-arch i386 -arch ppc -mmacosx-version-min=10.4"
--enable-shared=no --enable-static=yes

Yep mine looks exactly like that.

I have no idea why it would be required nor if this is a popular solution to
be honest. I got it from the apple docs here
http://developer.apple.com/technotes/tn2005/tn2137.html I read a similar
thing when I bumped into a post about building universal binary for Cairo.
