Okay maybe that was a 'slight' exaggeration.
I've now built the release dll and placed in the Windows\system32
directory following the advise given here

However 'import freetype2' still fails. I've searched the Cygwin folder
to see if an older FreeType dll is masking the one in Windows\system32
but I can't find any.
Please advise.
