Got it working now, thanks for the replies. I basically removed 
everything including:
/usr/lib/python2.5/site-packages/freevo*
/usr/lib/python2.5/site-packages/kaa*
My kaa and freevo svn directories (and hence the build dirs)
/usr/share/freevo/ - hadn't done that one before I don't think, may have 
something to do with it?

I also setup TV_CHANNELS, after so much testing and changing I can't 
remember if that had been unset the whole time. Think that was it, hope 
it helps you Richard.
