Is the record_server supposed to abort a recording if the recording is cancelled while it's in progress? In my tests, it seems to continue recording even if removed from the schedule or favourites.
Not yet, but that is an intended feature. The plugin should (can, very easily) get the pid of the recording process and kill it when it needs to. As for the ivtv_record plugin it could simply stop recording.
I just had a cloder look, and I think code could be added to ChildApp for this, using the return value (pid) of one of the popen type commands.
