I am going to have to post a "me too" message in agreement with the documentation on python.org. The tutorial is excellent! The Library Reference is also invaluable.
Also, O'Reilly has a good book ("Programming Python") that is aimed at anyone with at least a weak familiarity with any major programming language (C, Perl, Scheme, Pascal, etc). The book covers the same kind of stuff as the tutorial, but in more detail with examples and exercises. You will still need to use the online Library Reference with the book, though.

No problem. If you know C, C++ or Java you will learn Python very quickly. There is a nice tutorial at www.python.org.
