I think I've managed to get the "killing every second song" bug isolated, though I don't know what the problem is yet. Apparently, if you start Freevo, run it for any amount of time (1 hour, 5 days, etc.) and then rip a CD, the problem arises both during the ripping process and for every audio track played thereafter; including after the CD is removed from the drive.
As a workaround, I stop and restart freevo after ripping a CD, but this isn't really the ideal situation.
