I'm sorry, I should be more clear. What I meant by heftier was not the size of the list, but the assumption that each item in the list (of licenses) would be as cheap as the MPEG-4 AAC license.
OTOH it seems possible (as someone posted) that that you may acquire the codec licenses by choosing a card with the codecs implemented in hardware. I'll look more into that. Anyway, I don't think that my general assumption that it is possible to afford paying licenses for consumer products that are licensed with consumer pricing in mind. The codecs are implemented in a wide range of (other) consumer devices and that comparably greater consumer base should be reflected in the pricing (And indeed is, in the MPEG-4 AAC example). /Peter -----Ursprungligt meddelande----- Frn: Dirk Meyer Till: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Kopia: 'Aubin Paul ' Skickat: 2003-10-14 19:11 mne: [Freevo-devel] Re: Internet update/plugin selection frame work for Freevo ? If you use DVD: decss is illegal, ac3 has a copyright. Even mp3 is not without patents. And mplayer can play asf: bad. The quicktime stuff is also not free from patents. I needed 5 secs to write this list, there is more I guess.
