I will try upgrading my kernel then.

The DVDs had some scratches, yes. But I noticed this kind of error quite
often with my old computer too (it was a PPro 200, with a Pioneer CD-ROM
drive and a 2.2.15 kernel)...

I tried disabling the DMA, but then playing DVDs works fine. Only
seeking takes more time than with DMA enabled. Would a 80-wires ribbon
cable help? I have seen this mentionned somewhere on the Web.

Might be. I only recently (i.e. Friday :) started to watch DVDs with the
computer, so I'm new in these problems (although I have been using
and hacking freevo for over a year now).

I use the libdvdread from the runtime (at least I did, until I upgraded
to libdvdread 0.9.3, which seems to work fine. Version 0.9.4 doesn't
work with my version of the runtime, however, but it doesn't segfault).

I'll try to find the workaround. The freevo-XXX mailing lists don't seem
to be archived in SourceForge, though, it's a bit annoying.

I found a post
(http://www.mail-archive.com/[EMAIL PROTECTED]/msg04454.html)
mentioning my problem. I'll try a newer runtime...
