This must be optional. One of the reasons I switched from MythTV, is that Freevo doesn't require a database. I don't use Freevo for any TV or RecordingServer activity, so I don't want a database.
I don't like the idea of a traditional dataserver (like mysql) and either do most of the other Freevo devs. Instead we are looking to use a thin layer on top of the filesystem like sqlite or simple object serialization (pickle, marmalade). Freevo should be nimble. :)
