Hehe, feelings do indeed differ.. ;-) I think it uses too few keys. :-)
Basically, I think your approach is right, it should be manageable with only a
minimum amount of keys (and those should be explicitly decided on and used
throughout freevo), however I think too many of my IR's keys are unused most
of the time. Especially the playback control keys should work for the
detached audio player, and it should be possible to associate
"screens" (Freevo modules/navigation positions) with user-defined buttons, so
that a simple press of a key labelled "TV" jumps to the TV guide (or possibly
the last watched channel). (I hate pressing up/down/enter and exit many times
just for navigating between often used menu destinations like audio player
vs. video collection vs. TV, especially since many of the keys are unused in
the menu.)

This is one possibility, another would be to have "letter-wheels" as in those
public game automatons, which can be navigated with only up/down keys. These
plugins could be both implemented with a common API, so that one can be chose
depending on the IR at hand.
Very useful for 4. (the IMDB search), /me agrees.
Similarly, the manual record interface could be improved, but this is
obviously used only seldomly.
