Having a look at the above site and reading your mail carefully, I realize that this does not seem to be related to PVR/VDR* without DBV cards. I bought the Hauppauge PVR 350 card and just want to throw into this discussion that there are quite some PVR350 people here who would probably like to have PVR/VDR functionality, too. (e.g. Live TV w/ time shifting, live recording, ...)

We are only talking about adding DVB support in Freevo by using VDR for the DVB aspect. The same PVR features (recording, live-tv ffwd/rew/pause) are planned for both DVB and analogue cards (especially the pvr[2|3]50 series.

For those who don't know that card: It's an analogous TV card with an on-board MPEG2 encoder chip, supported by the ivtv.sf.net project which offers an v4l2 interface. Basically, you get a /dev/video0 which delivers an MPEG stream. (There are special device commands to adjust the exact type/parameters of the stream.)

Since this is not too different from DVB cards AFAICS, I think it might be worth having that in mind in this discussion. (Although it might be more appropriate to contact the Cadsoft-VDR-people. I'll CC Klaus S. - maybe he can tell us whether support of ivtv cards is planned / has been discussed before?)

The cards and interfaces to the cards (DVB vs IVTV) are completely different. The main thing in common is that you can get an MPEG stream from both.

Both Freevo and VDR support DVB and IVTV cards, VDR does this through an analoguetv plugin I believe. Using VDR's analogue / IVTV suport is not the Right Way to do PVR stuff in Freevo because we already support them.
