That might be ok. The MPlayer developers will argue that something like that should be a video output, not a filter, and when I explain my reasons why, they'll just say, "Well that's just for your obscure use-case." On the other hand, there's already precedent for this kind of thing in -af export. vf_outbuf does a bit extra, however. Well, I'll see. If you think about it, what I described about the X11 case isn't that different from how things work now.
