There is some code in Freevo cvs to get control about the detached player. IIRC it is not working correctly right now, but it is a start. Basicly you have the idlebar plugin showing you the current title and by pressing a button, a small control comes up. Dischi -- Drugs cause amnesia and other things I can't remember...
