Just some piece of information, in case you did not know and it could help you: AFAIK, you don't need fb.modes at all, you can directly setup your fb with fbset (see "fbset -h"). SDL might just do that, I don't know. (The result you get seems to be the desired mode from fb.modes, but "corrected" to 4:3 ratio?
