I admit, I'm not entirely sure how it works with xine, but I assume it works similar to mplayer: if it's AC3 or DTS, it will pass the stream through untouched to your receiver, otherwise (mp3, ogg, etc) it will decode the audio itself (to pcm, and stream PCM to the receiver, I assume). Xine always Just Worked for me in this respect. How does mplayer work for you? If you type: mplayer -ac hwac3, dvd://1 Does it pass AC3 through properly? And if you similarly do: mplayer -ac hwac3, file.mp3 Do you hear the MP3? I also assume you have only SPDIF from your soundcard (i.e. no analog connections)? It could just be a matter of configuring alsa. Perhaps you could attach your asound.conf. Cheers, Jason.
