There is some active work being done in this area by Otvos Attila. I would also add "no full-framerate deinterlacers suitable for realtime use" to MPlayer's list. Now Xine's list ... > +- limited (but maybe enough) filters Filters are reasonably easy to write though. And because they can be linked dynamically, we can provide those filters in Freevo if they're not included in a release yet. > +- when started with a given window, xine does not resize the video the > + fit the video I'm not sure I understand this. As I parse it, yes, xine does do this. More accurately, it's not really xine's job to do this. xine invokes a callback every time it's about to draw a frame to fetch details like dimensions and aspect ratio. The callback would return the window size. See Xine._default_frame_output_cb in kaa.xine. This is the method called for xv, and _default_dest_size_cb is called for xshm and I assume also fb/dfb. You'll see that yes, this code is a bit x11-centric. > +- no real software scaler. This means (I guess) that kaa.canvas has to > + scale to fit the video. Without a software scaler, xine is more or > + less useless. There has been some work done to make mplayer's software scaler more autonomous (as a separate library) and it's merged with ffmpeg now, I believe. Also, I've had some other recent revelations and I believe I can continue my port to xine. There's just never enough time to do everything. :/ But I see this as a solvable problem. I would also add to xine's list that it does have good, realtime, full-framerate deinterlacers.
