In the original posting I suggested to set the HWACCEL VO_DEV to:

MPLAYER_VO_DEV_HWACCEL = "xvmc:deint-bob"

don't! It will give rise to audio sync issues

just use

MPLAYER_VO_DEV_HWACCEL = "xvmc"

and make sure your xorg.conf has:

Modes   "720x576Noscale"

that is a hard-defined mode in the driver and will solve (m)any deint
issues.
As a good side effect, your CPU usage will also be much lower.
