I had no intention to be harsh in any way. My only concern was the impact and thus progress of 1.x (there was a fork proposed somewhere). I have no opinion on the functionality you proposed, and indeed, I didn't read your proposal in detail because my time is limited too. I can hardly find the time to get my xine-ui modifications done and accepted and then there is that ivtv_xine_tv plugin that still has some open feature requests. As with many OS projects, people tend to just implement what they have in mind. Show it to the community and if it's fit for purpose, it'll be included in the release.
